When TAFE NSW needed a complete hydraulic services fit-out for their new Diploma of Nursing training facility at Tighes Hill, Gordon Plumbing Solutions was engaged to deliver the full scope – from raw pipework through to final commissioning and as-constructed documentation.
This wasn’t a standard renovation. The facility was purpose-built to simulate a real clinical nursing environment – complete with training wards, clean and dirty preparation rooms, a training bathroom, and a fully functional sluice room. Every fixture, valve, and pipe had to meet strict TAFE NSW and Australian Standards requirements, with full documentation provided at every stage.
Design-compliant potable hot and cold water reticulation using Type B copper throughout, pressure tested to 1.5 times maximum working pressure in the presence of the superintendent. All pipework concealed within wall chases, ceiling spaces, and riser ducts - clean, professional, and built to last.
Full installation of sanitary drainage including all below-slab excavation, saw cutting, core holes, backfilling, and connection to existing sub-floor services. All inground sewer pipework installed at 100mm uPVC DWV to AS/NZS 3500 standards.
Supply and installation of two new TMVs in recessed, lockable stainless steel wall boxes - essential in a clinical training environment to prevent scalding at fixtures used by nursing students. All TMVs tested and certified to Australian Standards.
Supply and installation of two new testable RPZ backflow prevention devices in stainless steel wall-mounted boxes, protecting the potable water supply from contamination risk in a clinical setting. Fully tested and documented.
Supply and installation of two new single-phase 28-amp instantaneous hot water units, temperature set to 50°C maximum - meeting clinical facility requirements for safe, reliable, temperature-controlled hot water delivery.
Full supply and installation of 8 commercial sinks, a new disabled-compliant toilet pan and shower assembly, a commercial sluice sink connected with 50mm waste, and in-wall stainless steel tundishes with perspex viewing windows for mechanical services.
Supply and installation of new fire extinguishers with compliant signage throughout the facility.
This project demonstrates Gordon Plumbing Solutions’ capability to operate at the highest level of institutional plumbing – where compliance isn’t optional, documentation is mandatory, and the standard of workmanship is scrutinised at every stage by a superintendent.
Working on an active TAFE campus required careful coordination – noisy and disruptive works completed before 9am, a minimum 5 days written notice for any service shutdowns, and constant communication with TAFE NSW facilities management. We met every requirement, every time.
The facility now serves as a training environment for the next generation of NSW nurses – and the hydraulic systems underpinning it were built by Gordon Plumbing Solutions to a standard that will serve that mission for decades.
